Greenland crossing from Ilulissat to Tasiilaq

I will be part of a six-person scientific team to cross the Greenlandic ice sheet from Ilulissat to Tasiilaq.

We use Amundsen skis and kites.

Starting: 22. May 2026

End: 10. July 2026

Since kites are mentioned, won't the approx 700 kilometers be traversed quite quickly for an over month duration, or are you planning on extended scientific stays?

AFAIK Amundsen doesn't produce skis or kites.

We would be probably much faster going from east to west.

Because we would reach the highest point after 1/3 of the section and since the winds are mainly katabatic, the remain 2/3 of the section would be with tailwind.

We do it in reverse (starting in the west) because it starts melting first in the west. 

We use Asnes Amundsen BC skis. Crossing against the wind will only be possible to some extend because we cant do proper carving.

This is why we expect to do quite some walking, each with a 100 km pulka, for 2/3 of the tour. 

Do you have experience on greenland or kiting with cross-country skis?

I don't have enough experience to make a statement, but I would be a bit sceptical of using such skis if your primary mean of transport is kiting.

They used a wider model of Åsnes skis, I think it was Fjøro.
