Crocket Skrevet 7. november 2008 Skrevet 7. november 2008 I arrived on Stavanger in the beginning of September and I don't know the surrounding areas near Stavanger. My question might be a bit crazy but I'm wondering if there is a dry tooling place around Stavanger? Or if anyone know an ice climbing place not so far away from Stavanger although I'm not expecting to go in this time. Thank for your answer if there is something to responf to my questions. Greg
martin.m Skrevet 7. november 2008 Skrevet 7. november 2008 Sorry, but not familiar with the possibilities for climbing in the Stavanger-area. This link will offer more info (also in english): http://www.klatring.no/default.asp?V_DOC_ID=925 or http://www.rock-ice.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=151&Itemid=48 or http://www.moran-mountain.co.uk/moran-mountaineering/ice-climbing-courses.htm Dry tooling is a controversial issue. To my knowledge none of the official routes allow this (on dry rock). Se link ang. dry tooling for dere som ikke vet hva dette dreier seg om: http://www.mountaineering-scotland.org.uk/pitch-in/drytooling.html Martin
gjerv Skrevet 7. november 2008 Skrevet 7. november 2008 Not familiar with dry-trooling, however Stavanger and Rogaland is great for climbing. Have a look at www.brv.no. You will find the Rogaland climbing guide at specialized shops in the region, like "Ut i naturen" andPlatou at Madla and Sandnes.
Crocket Skrevet 7. november 2008 Forfatter Skrevet 7. november 2008 Thank for your answer. I saw that there is some good place for ice climbing not so far away from Stavanger or Bergen, it's fine. Do you know also if there is a lot of people who are doing cross-country skiing? What kind of place are good near Stavanger or Bergen?

Folgefonna is reasonable available from both Stavanger and Bergen. It is reputed to be a fantastic tour. Google Folgefonna. Sirdalsheiene is superb for the Stavanger area and I guess within an hour drive from the city centre. Hardangervidda is Norway's Mecca (not meaning the bingo halls with the same name) for cross country skiing. It is the birthplace of cross-country skiing too........ in our mythology. For Bergen, I guess you also have Fanafjellet within half an hours drive. Kvamsfjellet is within one hour drive. Voss is also very popular. Thousands of miles of possibilities, in other words. ...........Climbing, I do not know. I am mostly "climbing" Mount Florida myself.
